Dont get me wrong its a great console but u buy the xbox, buy the live kit, pay microsoft on top of broadband and then buy a remote 2 watch dvd's... :(

true, the outcome after getting everything listed is good, then again, are we really getting our moneys worth? *unsure*

Dont forget having to buy a smaller pad because you dont want to use something akin to the size of a car tyre to play games with.

Its big buisness so these tactics have been employed before but Microsoft are old hands at making you pay for add-ons etc. Short answer is YES they are ripping you off, but so do alot of other companies.

    Dont seen as much though

true but with the ps2 u have to buy a memory card or two. Also do u have to pay for internet on ps2 or is it free.
  7. Killswitch New Member

Ps2 online is free, xbox live is better but costs

Is it because they need to make money somehow, or because they're stingy bastards? I'd assume the former, but you never know with Microsoft...

The remote actually lowers the cost of the total X-Box as the DVD decoding is linked to the presence of the remote, microsoft only pay fees in relation to DVD software to the companies based on sales of the remote. It saves them & the end users who don't care about DVD functionality money in reality.

X-Box Live is a centralised service, which pretty much explains the costs of subscription. I don't think it is in reality overpriced as you can use it all you like and it does actually carry content which was for the most part something most people believed would never actually appear.

The X-box dvd playback kit is soooo much better than the PS2 one, the fast forward has no delay and isn't jerky, it also doesnt take its time when pressing play to continue.
  11. I haven't noticed any slow downs when pressing play *unsure*
As for FF and REW I wouldn't know, cos I don't use them... ever.

You young people, always in a hurry, so what if it prosesses for
a while, is a few seconds gonna kill you?

This pretty much just as pointless as an argument as the one they
had a while back comparing loading times of games between whatever
and whatever, it's meaningless, it's not going to kill you to wait even
10 seconds longer. But nooooo, you have to have INSTANT gratification.

Ghhh, learn a bit of patience, no wonder you people get killed by heart
attacks caused by stress, always in a bloody rush.

Meh...doesn't take long for me...although I'll admit that the PS2 isn't the best DVD player. The fact is that it works quite well, just not brilliantly.
  13. Killswitch New Member

aye, the only point i was making was that the xbox one was better. I have a silver ps2 with dvd remote sensor built in, but its not very good, u almost literally have to point the remote at it...

Hehe. I just use my controller - the remote I bought (it was a 4gamers one, part of some Argos package) is ok, just a bit crap. Crap in that I have the same problem as you.
  15. I use my controller as well, on my PS2, that is another thing
I don't get, people complain about using a controller... then
again, my apartment is about 3x5m so I don't have to strech
    the thing ;)
I could of course direct the image from my comp too, but I
tend to watch most movies with my left eye cos most DVDs
I own I have seen before.

That is, of course, until Sony's dubious design kicks in, the disc reader starts to ###### up and the DVD keeps freezing halfway through scenes, which REALLY pisses me off. And it happened to me just after my warranty expired. How bloody convenient!
  17. Don't worry, this happens with every technological product
and usually right after the warranty runs out, which is why
the warranty usually is only 1 year.
Trust me, I work in technical support for products that cost
about 100 times more than the XBox or PS2 and they tend
to break after 1 year, of course there is exceptions, just like
    with concoles.
  18. Nirvana New Member

yes maybe but it shouldnt !
  19. Yeah, well, when that day comes the end of the world is upon
us, it's a virtual impossibility to make anything that more than
1 moving part so that it will not break.

Of course it's possible to make them so that it will be less likely
to break and these are the products that cos 10-100x more than
    what you normally would buy.

And of course I can't really wish for unbreakable stuff, cos that
would mean no more work for me and of course in the end this
would pretty much lose jobs all over the place.

    It's a kind of a catch 22.
