Bought it, can't stand it, Mario Kart 64 was actually better, hugely disappointing

I personally thought Mario Kart 64 sucked. Crash Team Racing was far superior at the time, in my opinion, but Mario Kart Double Dash is a pleasant surprise!
  6. Dionysos New Member

Well im crossing my fingers, just got it from Amazon for £29.99. *unsure*

whoa Mystic G I think you are the first person i'v heard that doesn't like the new Kart king! I think the only thing mazza 64 was better for was the lil jump move you could do. I miss that!

U cant possibly hate the sight of seeing a character being pulled along buy a 10 foot bow-wow dog seconds before getting jacksied by a homing shell???

I didnt like Mario Kart 64. suffered from what alot of N64 games did, that unexplained MEH factor. where all the elements of the game were right but when you play it.....

    "MEH"

    just average.

So DD should be better I very much hope.

Mario Kart 64 was just a souless rehash of the SNES mario Kart with 3D graphics. It did absolutely nothing its predecessor didn't, plus it was extremely boring. The difference between it and Crash Team Racing (which was just as unoriginal) was that CTR had a proper, funny sense of humour, lacking from MArio Kart, and was a lot more fun to play because of it. Plus it was a lot faster, and the tracks were suerior.

Double Dash adds something to a genre (which I appreciate), it's faster and has improved track design. It rules! B)

If your wanting a complete revival of the Kart series then DD isnt it but heck it'l be the best 6 months of your life.

If you'r comparing CTR with MArio Kart then i think mazza wins again. CTR is just a sony endorsed cash in which while decent enough hasn't come even close to the series.

Im interested. What does "Meh" mean? Andd average? Jesus christ at the time the N64 had the best games and rember that ALL the big hitters came from that console no where else. If the N64 games were just average and it was already miles better than its rival PS then how good does it make their games sound? ouch...Im getting a horrible image of the Original Resident evil arg! or the original Tomb Raider. The pixels! Make it stop!

I did mean the original CTR, not the update. I just happened to prefer it to Mario Kart 64.

While DD isn't a revival, at least it wasn't just an update like 64. It adds something new, and also is far more enjoyable than the N64 version, which I found brain numbingly dull.

"meh" is like yeah very nice but, whatever.

The N64 had Oracle of Time, Banjo Kazooie. erm. Thats its as far as i can remember for good games. If the N64 had been the better of the two consoles with the majority of the games being better then the N64 wouldnt have died the death that it did. It was another console that had VERY average games flood its market. Saying that all the big hitters were on the N64 is simply not true. Gran Turismo 2, Final fantasy series anyone? Total up the number of great N64 games compared to the great PS1 games and you will see that N64 gets spanked. Dont get me wrong, the N64 was good, but thats all it was.Good.

Visually I think the N64 sucked for the simple reason that I like my crystal clear RGB signals. In the uk I couldnt get a RGB cble for the N64 anywhere, so i always remember that N64 being the Commodore 64 of the console market ( except the C64 console lol ) because of its bland smudged dull looking games.

The N64 also suffered because of the CARTRIDGE system. Nintendo loved cartridges because they made the cratridges themselves and software companies had to purchase Nintendos cartridges to produce their games. This saw companies avoid N64 like the plague because of ludicously high production costs. Remember EA dropping the console because of this reason?

As for the first Resident Evil and Tomb Raider games. Maybe you forget but those two games started the Survival Horror genre and the rebirth of 3d platformers, Lara Croft was alot cooler than a fat italian plumber with a village people moustache :p
Both were visualy cool at the time as well, especially Resi.

Dont take me for a Playstationphile but it was just a fact that the N64 had few Great games on it. It doesnt help that I hated Goldeneye lol

It really gets on your nerves when you can't understand why everyone loves a game that you find positively detestable. In your case it's Goldeneye (not a big fan, but i don't HATE it), with me it's Ghost Recon.

It also dosen't help when everyone fusses over a console you can't really see the point in. Back then it was the N64, with three recognisably decent games (Perfect Dark, the Zelda series and Banjo Kazooie seeries), these days it's N-Gage, with no commendable features to speak of, but everyone still makes a huge, unbelievable fuss about nothing more than an overprice hunk of configured plastic that makes amusing sounds when you press the button!

Totally agree with that. Its more like Mario Party than Mario Kart. Slow too, criminally bad considering the people who made it.
  15. Borris New Member

You seem to have missed the big games on the N64 it had the likes of Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo K, JFG, along with the industry Standard Mario 64, and even the karting game (that isnt as good as the new one), Excitebike 64, Pilot Wings etc. Jesus man if those games are just average then what the hell is an good game! Nintendo have always prized them selves over quality over quantity. Sony has always gone for flooding the market with games. They did for the PS1 and now for its sequel. Saying that Nintendo pushed out countless average games simply is not true mainly because it takes them soooooo bloody long to make them!

And there is nothing wrong with Mario Party my man except maybe the number of sequels (still not as bad as FF on its 13th or summat). Mazza party is the most fun you can get from a board game!

Maybe i was a bit critical of the ole tomb raider and i kinda remember thinking they loked good but i watched them on a mates PC and nearly threw up it was so jerky. How techno moves.

I do agree that mazza kart isnt the fastest game around but it wasn't meant to be, if it was too fast then you would not be able to watch the drama unfold around you or beable to time the shells to perfection etc. If you want a kick of speed then F-zero is the one. Games are designed for different purposes. Some for Graphical power, some for speed, some for sound power others for colourfulness. It depends on its audience. Games are not meant to combine a bit of everything to suit it. You cant have it all etc...

Maybe its my age then. Nintendo games just dont excite me as much as they used to. Zelda was amazing but the Sailing almost spoiled it for me. Mario Sunshine was good too but not a patch on M64, Pikmin didnt do anything for me apart from a few giggles. I was never a massive Metroid fan but i do still need to try Fusion i guess but overall Nintendo just dont cut it for me anymore. Im sure theyll release 'perfect games' again, just been waiting on them for a little while.

And yes the N64 was amazing, i particularily enjoyed golden eye, pd, both the zeldas oh and 1080, but i have to agree a lot of the games on the n64 were clangers
  17. Dionysos New Member

Well the N64 did give us Turok.......................burn the thing

    LOL ;)
  18. Depressed New Member

    *hisses in hatred*

And for goodness sake Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine were both absolutely terrible. I really cannot see why everyone hypes those two up. Aside from being hideously boring, the graphics were far from brilliant, the music annoying, the level design was bland and uninspiring, they are genuinely CRAP.
  19. Dionysos New Member

I must protest there about Mario Sunshine. The Graphics were superb, and the level design was more than adequate, and I HATE platformers (that should be my moto )
  20. Depressed New Member

Both of those aspects were nothing when compared to JakII on the PS2 (Anyone saying it's a souless rehash just can't stand it when Sony does a decent platform game)

Mario sucked, and has done for two console generations.
